An&nbsp;articling fellowship&nbsp;at LEAF will&nbsp;provide&nbsp;an&nbsp;opportunity to learn more about advancing substantive gender equality rights through litigation, law reform, and education.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Role Overview<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Public Interest Articling Fellow works with LEAF\u2019s&nbsp;legal&nbsp;team to&nbsp;support the organization\u2019s litigation, law reform, and public legal education efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who We Are<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF is a national non-profit organization which uses law to advance&nbsp;the&nbsp;equality&nbsp;of women, girls, trans, and non-binary people&nbsp;in Canada. Our national office is based in Toronto, and we have volunteer branches in Edmonton,&nbsp;Calgary,&nbsp;Saskatchewan,&nbsp;Winnipeg, Ottawa,&nbsp;Sudbury,&nbsp;Toronto, Hamilton,&nbsp;Kitchener-Waterloo,&nbsp;London,&nbsp;Windsor,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Newfoundland and Labrador.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We intervene in legal cases throughout Canada to advance&nbsp;gender&nbsp;equality \u2013 helping to prevent violence,&nbsp;eliminate&nbsp;discrimination in the workplace, provide better maternity&nbsp;and parental&nbsp;benefits, ensure a right to pay equity, and allow access to reproductive freedoms. We push for progressive law reform on issues central to gender equality, including sexual violence, online hate, technology-facilitated gender-based violence, and&nbsp;pay equity. You bring an intersectional feminist lens to your work \u2013 including your analysis, collaborations, and communication style. You&nbsp;see law as a tool to achieve gender&nbsp;equality, and&nbsp;want to put your legal research and writing skills to work in support of this goal. You are a clear communicator&nbsp;with strong organizational&nbsp;skills and&nbsp;can balance tasks from multiple supervisors. You are excited to work with our team to advance gender&nbsp;justice&nbsp;in Canada.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Primary Job Responsibilities<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct legal and academic research\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Monitor cases that may\u00a0impact\u00a0gender equality\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete legal memos\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review intervention and law reform materials\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attend legal interventions\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Draft advocacy letters and statements\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Help prepare public legal education materials, including fact sheets, infographics, and social media content on key litigation and law reform initiatives\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attend meetings of LEAF\u2019s different committees, which are composed of leading academics and practitioners in constitutional and equality law\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assist\u00a0with administrative legal tasks, including preparing meeting minutes\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Entering final year or recent graduate of an accredited\u00a0Canadian\u00a0law school, or graduate of an international\u00a0or non-accredited Canadian law school\u00a0participating\u00a0in the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) process\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strong legal research and writing\u00a0skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Knowledge of constitutional\u00a0and equality\u00a0law\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strong time-management and organizational skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Good\u00a0interpersonal skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-motivated and able to work well with\u00a0others\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strong written and oral communication skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Knowledge of LEAF\u2019s mandate and legal activities\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to feminism and\/or social\u00a0justice\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Proficiency in both English and French is an\u00a0asset\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Compensation and&nbsp;Benefits:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a full-time, 10-month contract position.
