Barton <\/em>at the Alberta Court of Appeal. You can read our leave application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/2015-11-10-LEAF-IAAW-leave-application.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 2, 2016, LEAF and IAAW filed our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-05-02-final-LEAF-IAAW-factum-R-v-Barton-ABCA.pdf\">factum<\/a> with the Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016-05-02-final-LEAF-IAAW-factum-R-v-Barton-ABCA.pdf\">factum<\/a>, LEAF and IAAW submit that the trial Court made two errors in law. First, the Court admitted evidence of Cindy Gladue\u2019s sexual history and allowed repeated characterizations of her that perpetuated myths and stereotypes that should not form any part of Canadian law. Second, the Court failed to inform the jury that consent to a given form of sexual touching does not extend to the use of any conceivable degree of force by one\u2019s sexual partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hearing in this appeal is scheduled for <span data-term=\"goog_1864801900\">September 6, 2016<\/span>, in Edmonton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>About Women\u2019s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF)<\/em><br>Since April 17, 1985, when equality rights were enshrined in sections 15 and 28 of the <em>Charter of Rights and Freedoms,<\/em> LEAF has worked toward equality for women and girls.
