The council is tasked with supporting the development of the Government of <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada&rsquo;s<\/span> Federal Strategy Against Gender-based Violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Advisory Council<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Advisory Council will serve as a forum to exchange views, promising practices and research on issues related to gender-based violence. The members of the Advisory Council come from a broad range of sectors and areas of expertise, including prevention, LGBTQ2S issues, engaging men and boys, cyber-violence, sexual violence, violence against people with disabilities, violence against Indigenous women and girls, and the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Dr. Kim Stanton, Legal Director, LEAF<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. <span class=\"xn-person\">Kim Stanton<\/span> is a Canadian lawyer and feminist advocate. Her legal practice has focused on constitutional and Aboriginal law; her academic work has focused on truth commissions and public inquiries. &nbsp;Kim is the Legal Director of the Women\u2019s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>About the Women\u2019s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since April 17, 1985, when equality rights were enshrined in sections 15 and 28 of the <i>Charter of Rights and Freedoms<\/i>, LEAF has worked toward equality for women and girls. LEAF intervenes in key cases to ensure that when courts interpret equality rights, there will be a systemic improvement in women\u2019s lives.
