{"id":18439,"date":"2016-01-15T14:04:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T19:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/?post_type=submission&#038;p=18439"},"modified":"2020-12-18T15:43:31","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T20:43:31","slug":"lao-domestic-violence-strategy","status":"publish","type":"submission","link":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/fr\/submission\/lao-domestic-violence-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Submission on the Development of Legal Aid Ontario&rsquo;s \u00ab\u00a0Domestic Violence Strategy\u00a0\u00bb"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In January 2016, LEAF provided a submission in response to Legal Aid Ontario&rsquo;s public consultation process regarding the development of a \u00ab\u00a0Domestic Violence Strategy\u00a0\u00bb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF made four main submissions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Legal Aid Ontario should consider the \u00ab\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/2015-01-22-Blueprint-for-a-NAP-on-VAW.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blueprint for a National Action Plan on Violence against Women and Girls<\/a>\u00a0\u00bb in developing its Domestic Violence Strategy.<\/li><li>A gender-based, survivor-directed approach is critical.<\/li><li>All Legal Aid Ontario staff, community legal clinics, and private bar panel lawyers who may interact with domestic violence survivors receive adequate and ongoing training. Legal Aid should ensure that this training includes an intersectional gender-based analysis of family and sexual violence cases and an understanding of the tactics an abuser will use during court proceedings.
