In August 2021, LEAF and LEAF Edmonton\u00a0submitted a letter to the City of Edmonton\u2019s Community and Public Services Committee as they considered a proposed by-law on hate-motivated harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This by-law was being considered in the wake of the terrible series of misogynist, racist, and Islamophobic attacks on women in Edmonton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEAF condemned these attacks and supported calls from community members in Edmonton to establish a plan to stop street harassment and racist violence in Alberta. In our letter, we emphasized that any measures and programs developed by the City of Edmonton needed to be developed in consultation with affected communities. We also asked for the opportunity to provide input into the development of any by-law or other measures taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
