{"id":27424,"date":"2026-05-29T13:44:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/?post_type=submission&#038;p=27424"},"modified":"2026-05-28T13:44:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T17:44:46","slug":"submission-for-pre-budget-consultations-in-advance-of-the-upcoming-federal-budget","status":"publish","type":"submission","link":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/fr\/submission\/submission-for-pre-budget-consultations-in-advance-of-the-upcoming-federal-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Submission for Pre-Budget Consultations in Advance of the Upcoming Federal Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On May 21, 2026, LEAF provided a written submission to the Standing Committee on Finance with three recommendations for the upcoming Federal Budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overview of Submission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building a stronger, more resilient economy cannot be done without investments in national infrastructure rooted in equality, a cornerstone of Canadian identity. LEAF&rsquo;s budget submission makes three recommendations, with promising returns on investment, that contribute to the government\u2019s goal of a resilient economy that is uniquely Canadian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF provided the following recommendations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That the government commit to investing in key infrastructure to address the gender-based violence (GBV) epidemic by:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fully funding the continuation of the National Action Plan to end GBV (NAP) for the full 10 years with a commitment of $200 million annually for the next five years, as of 2027-28.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Funding the renewal of a comprehensive Federal GBV Strategy to address GBV at the national level with ongoing funding of $44 million annually.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating an independent federal GBV Commissioner to monitor the implementation of the NAP and future efforts, with an annual budget of $3 million.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That the government amend the Employment Insurance Act to ensure workers with family care responsibilities can have better access to income support following job separation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That the government commit to providing operational funding of $10 million per year for five years, starting in 2027-28, to support leading national women\u2019s rights organizations \u2013 whose primary mandates are to advance systemic change for women in all their diversity in Canada \u2013 to protect women\u2019s rights, address the epidemic of gender-based violence, and increase women\u2019s economic security and prosperity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Read and download the submission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/LEAF-Written-Submission-for-Pre-Budget-Consultations-in-Advance-of-the-Upcoming-Federal-Budget.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pdfemb-pdf-embedder-viewer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/LEAF-Written-Submission-for-Pre-Budget-Consultations-in-Advance-of-the-Upcoming-Federal-Budget.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">LEAF-Written-Submission-for-Pre-Budget-Consultations-in-Advance-of-the-Upcoming-Federal-Budget<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":true},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-27424","submission","type-submission","status-publish","hentry","category-whats-new"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
