{"id":5089,"date":"2013-10-04T11:36:00","date_gmt":"2013-10-04T15:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/?p=5089"},"modified":"2020-12-10T11:41:04","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T16:41:04","slug":"improving-gender-diversity-on-boards-and-in-senior-managament","status":"publish","type":"submission","link":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/fr\/submission\/improving-gender-diversity-on-boards-and-in-senior-managament\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving Gender Diversity on Boards and in Senior Management"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF made a submission in response to the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) public consultation process regarding disclosure requirements for gender diversity, including on boards and in senior management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF welcomed the OSC\u2019s initiative to address the systemic problem of women\u2019s underrepresentation in the higher echelons of the private sector in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The submission was made considering the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There is an underrepresentation of women on boards of directors and in senior management positions of Canadian corporations.<\/li><li>This underrepresentation is not due to a lack of women who have the qualifications and credentials to hold such positions.<\/li><li>Measures need to be taken to increase the representation of women on boards and in senior management positions.<\/li><li>The OSC, as the body responsible for fostering fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets, has a role to play in increasing the representation of women on boards and in senior management positions.<\/li><li>The appointment of directors and members of senior management should be done on a merits-based basis, with due regard for the proven benefits of diversity on the board, including gender.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF suggested that the following types of disclosure requirements regarding women on boards and in senior management would be appropriate and useful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reporting on gender composition on the board<\/li><li>Reporting what, if any, gender diversity policies are in effect<\/li><li>Reporting on how gender diversity is taken into account during the board selection process<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The OSC should recommend that non-venture issuers have a gender diversity policy, and articulate best practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Download the submission below.<\/p>\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/OSC-Comment-2013.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">OSC-Comment-2013<\/a>\n<p class=\"wp-block-pdfemb-pdf-embedder-viewer\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":4299,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5089","submission","type-submission","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-whats-new"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
