{"id":8444,"date":"2010-05-07T13:19:29","date_gmt":"2010-05-07T17:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/?p=8444"},"modified":"2020-12-08T10:40:21","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T15:40:21","slug":"bill-94","status":"publish","type":"submission","link":"https:\/\/www.leaf.ca\/fr\/submission\/bill-94\/","title":{"rendered":"Submission to the Quebec National Assembly on Bill 94"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On May 7, 2010, LEAF made a submission to the Quebec National Assembly on Bill 94, which excludes Muslim women who wear the niqab or burqa from public services and institutions in Quebec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LEAF argued that,  rather than respecting \u00ab\u00a0the right to gender equality\u00a0\u00bb, Bill 94 was an act of inequality. The Bill would further marginalized and isolate an already stigmatized minority group of women based on their sex, race, and religion. More generally, women&rsquo;s equality can never be achieved by legislating how women dress, whether requiring women to cover up or requiring women to undress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A foundational principle of Quebec&rsquo;s open secularism is equality.
