The Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) is a national non-profit organization with a long history of advancing the equality rights of all women, girls, and people who experience gender-based discrimination through litigation, law reform, and education. Our National Office is in what is now known as Toronto, Ontario, in the Dish with One Spoon Territory.
POSITION OVERVIEW
LEAF is hiring a Fundraising and Events Support Coordinator to support the organization’s work from June to August (12 weeks total).
The Fundraising and Events Support Coordinator will gain first-hand experience in non-profit fund development, receive valuable on-the-job training, and learn about donor engagement and stewardship, and the day-to-day operations that support charities. Throughout 2025, LEAF will be celebrating our 40th anniversary. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning and implementation of these activities. The Fundraising and Events Support Coordinator will work closely with LEAF’s Operations Team, including the Senior Development Officer and the Office and Branch Relations Coordinator.
The Fundraising and Events Support Coordinator will work full time and be expected to work out of LEAF National’s office in downtown Toronto for two days a week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working with our donor database, including data entry, maintenance, and report processing
- Donor, foundation, and union research and prospecting
- Run branch membership reports and send renewal information for expiring memberships
- Assist and provide general support to the overall operations of LEAF including, organizing meetings, conferences, and other duties and responsibilities as they arise
- Assist in the planning and coordination of LEAF’s 40th anniversary events, including virtual and in-person celebrations.
- Support logistics and fundraising activities related to LEAF’s 40th anniversary events
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
An ideal candidate will have some of the following:
- 1-2 years’ relevant work experience or enrollment in a relevant educational program (such as Business Studies, Gender Studies, or non-profit programs)
- Ability to follow instructions and perform assigned duties with limited direct supervision
- Knowledge or experience in fund development, event planning, or non-profit administration
- Solid verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to express ideas and opinions clearly and effectively
- Demonstrated commitment to intersectional feminism and/or social justice
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively, both independently and as part of a team, and to meet tight deadlines
To be eligible, the applicant must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*The applicant must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The applicant may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they are 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
COMPENSATION
The Fundraising and Events Support Coordinator will be paid at a rate of $23.50 per hour for a 37.5-hour work week, plus 4% vacation pay.
