Workplace Rights

From pay equity to pension equality to sexual harassment, LEAF has fought to end discrimination in the workplace with the support of legal, feminist, academic, activist, and labour communities

In the early days of the Charter, LEAF intervened in an appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada concerning sexual harassment in the workplace.  The Supreme Court agreed with our argument that that sexual harassment is sex discrimination. This landmark decision set a strong precedent for the protection of human rights in the workplace.

If you have been sexually harassed at work, visit our page discussing your options.

More recently, LEAF has gone to court to argue that equal pay for work of equal value is a fundamental human right, and to make sure that the law recognizes the impact of the double burden for women as employees and caregivers, and its connection to the feminization of poverty.
