On December 6, 2018, LEAF joins feminists across Canada in remembering 14 women who were murdered in Montreal 29 years ago. Today, 67 percent of women in this country have experienced physical or sexual violence, and on average, every six days a woman is killed by her intimate partner. Violence affects us all, but women who face intersecting forms of discrimination are especially at risk.
“Every year December 6th comes upon us as a harsh and tragic reminder of the importance of continuing to combat violence against women,” says Shaun O’Brien, LEAF Executive Director & General Counsel, “including the use of firearms against women. Today, our thoughts are with women and families who have suffered family violence, as well as with victims of incidents of mass violence. We stand with renewed determination to advocate for legal and policy change to help protect women and children.”
