LEAF’s Persons Day Gala 2019 to Celebrate Feminism at Work

October 10, 2019

Toronto – The Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) annual Persons Day Gala is our largest and most important event. The funds raised directly support our work to advance equality rights.

The Persons Day Gala 2019 will celebrate ‘Feminism at Work’ and the gains of women in the workplace. LEAF also recognizes the gains that are still to be made to pay equity and pension equality. Funds from the Gala will directly support our work in pension equality, including our current intervention at the Supreme Court of Canada in the appeal of the Federal Court of Appeal’s decision in Fraser v. Attorney General of Canada, a case involving unequal access to pension benefits by female RCMP officers.

On October 23rd, 2019, LEAF will welcome hundreds of LEAF supporters to the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon at the Toronto Reference Library. We’ll share a wonderful evening of cocktails and culinary delights with members of the legal, feminist, academic, activist, corporate, and labour communities. This year, we’re pleased to welcome the world-renowned comedy theatre, The Second City, which will be providing entertainment for the evening from an all-female improvisation cast.

This event is only possible with the generous support of our sponsors.

The Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) has been speaking with a proud feminist voice for almost 35 years. LEAF works to advance the substantive equality rights of women and girls through litigation, law reform, and public education using the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Our victories have created real change in women’s lives—helping to prevent violence, eliminate discrimination in the workplace, allow access to reproductive freedoms, provide better maternity benefits, and ensure a right to pay equity.
