LEAF is pleased to announce that Kim Stanton, a human rights, equality and constitutional lawyer, will join the national women’s rights organization as part-time Legal Director.
Dr. Stanton, who holds an LLB degree from the University of British Columbia and Masters and Doctor of Juridical Science degrees from the University of Toronto, has dedicated her adult life to volunteer and professional work in human rights and social justice, including with the United Nations in the Gaza Strip, with the African Women Lawyers Association to address sexual harrassment in Ghana and providing support to a legal team on the Bosnia-Hercegovina genocide case before the International Court of Justice. She has served as an official observer of a truth commission in West Africa, and has published and lectured with respect to her academic work on truth commissions and public inquiries in Canada.
As with her previous practice in Vancouver, her current practice in Toronto focuses on Aboriginal, human rights and administrative law. While in Vancouver, Dr. Stanton served on the board of West Coast LEAF and on the advisory board of the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies.
LEAF is a national, charitable, non-profit organization founded in 1985. LEAF works to advance the equality of women and girls in Canada through litigation, law reform and public education using the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
